If a bill payment is delayed because of an error on our side and your biller charges a late fee, we’ll cover that fee once we confirm the delay was our fault.
What’s covered
We paid after the date you selected due to a Deferit processing error, and your biller charged a late fee.
Example (covered):
Your bill is due today. You upload it and make your first payment by 6 PM. We don’t send the bill payment until the next day. The biller charges a $10 late fee. We’ll cover the $10.
What’s not covered
- We sent the payment on time, but the biller posted it later (e.g., they batch-post the next business day).
- The payment was delayed due to incomplete/incorrect bill details, insufficient funds for your first Pay in 4 payment, or biller limitations outside Deferit’s control.
Example (not covered):
Your bill is due today. You upload it and make your first payment by 6 PM. We process and send payment by 6:30 PM, but the biller marks it received on their next banking day and applies a $10 late fee. This is not covered.
How to request coverage
- Chat widget (website only): Open the Chat button in the bottom-right corner of our website and type your request, such as “I’d like to request Bill Payment Guarantee coverage.”
Include proof with your request:
- A screenshot of your biller’s payment history showing the posting date/status
- Proof of the late fee (e.g., statement line item, notice, or message from the biller)
Our AI agent will gather the details and, if further help is needed, a Customer Hero will follow up directly.
Tips
- Upload your bill with clear payment instructions.
- Ensure your first Pay in 4 payment is available on the date you choose.
- If your biller accepts ACH or check only, allow extra time for posting (ACH ~2–5 business days, check ~7–10 business days) as biller processing times aren’t covered.
