Your Deferit costs depend on your membership plan and the services you use. Here’s a breakdown of the fees and when they apply.
Monthly membership fees
Choose from three membership monthly plans: Lite, Max or Ultra. The fees for each plan are on our website. To compare what’s included in each plan, see “How much does Deferit cost?” Pay in 2 and Pay in 4 are subject to approval criteria and Approved Balance.
Your membership renews each month until you cancel. The fee applies while your membership is active, even if you don’t use Deferit that month or we don’t secure bill savings. It is separate from your bill repayments.
Application fee
There’s a $1.99 non-refundable fee when you apply for a membership, even if your application isn’t approved.
This is separate from your monthly membership fee and any security deposit.
Payment processing fee
A $0.99 processing fee applies to each payment through Deferit, including:
- Your monthly membership payment.
- A bill paid in full using Bill Pay (pay in 1).
- Each Pay in 2 or Pay in 4 installment.
Processing fees also apply to Bill Saving payments, but they’re included in the Bill Saving fee, rather than added on top.
You can review your payment schedule and applicable fees before confirming a bill.
Failed payment and late fees
These fees apply only to Lite members. Max and Ultra members don’t pay Deferit failed payment or late fees.
If you’re on Lite, here’s what happens when a scheduled payment isn’t paid on time:
- If the payment fails: you have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on its due date to make the payment and avoid a failed payment fee. Otherwise, a $6 fee applies once for that scheduled payment.
- If it’s still unpaid 2 days after the due date: a $12 late fee applies.
- If it’s still unpaid 7 days after the due date: another $12 late fee applies.
The late-fee deadlines are also measured at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Late fees apply in addition to any failed payment fee charged for that scheduled payment.
Overdue payments may limit your ability to use your account, including submitting new bills, until your account is up to date.
Having trouble paying? Please contact our team through the Help Center. If you’ve been charged a late fee because of financial hardship or circumstances outside your control, we’ll review your situation and may refund it.
Security deposit
Some customers may need to pay a refundable security deposit. If this applies to you, we’ll show you the amount and explain the conditions before you confirm payment.
The deposit isn’t a fee. The deposit will be refunded back to the original payment method once all your payment obligations on your bills have been fulfilled. Your bank may take longer to make the money available.
If you don’t repay what you owe, we may use the deposit to cover our loss and return any amount left over. The deposit doesn’t earn interest.
For more information, see “What is the security deposit?”
Bill Saving fee
If we successfully negotiate a lower bill, you keep 50% of the annual savings and our fee is the other 50%.
For example, if we save you $20 a month:
- Your savings over 12 months are $240.
- Our Bill Saving fee is $120, including applicable processing fees.
- You keep $120 in savings.
You’ll pay the fee according to the payment schedule shown to you.
No savings? No Bill Saving fee. Your monthly membership fee still applies while your membership is active.
Once savings have been secured, the Bill Saving fee is non-refundable unless we made an error during the negotiation or a refund is required by law.
Fees from your biller or bank
Your biller or bank may charge its own fees. These are separate from Deferit’s fees and can apply even if you’re on Max or Ultra.
- Biller payment fees: if your biller charges a fee for an online payment we make, we’ll add it to your bill amount. You’re also responsible for any biller fees when using a virtual card.
- Biller late fees: allow enough time for your payment to reach your biller to help avoid late charges.
- Bank fees: your bank may charge you for payments we attempt, including unsuccessful payments.
