Deferit is designed to support as many people as possible — but a few eligibility requirements apply. Here’s who can use each feature:
General eligibility
To use Deferit, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Verify your identity — using your name, date of birth, and other details
- Have only one account per person — once your identity is verified, you can use your account to pay any bill, even if it’s not in your name
Once verified, you're ready to upload and pay bills without needing additional approval steps.
Pay in 4 eligibility
The Pay in 4 feature is available to most users, but there are additional checks to ensure responsible use:
- We may assess factors such as recent defaults, debt agreements, or bankruptcy
- In some cases, we may request additional info or run a soft credit check (this does not affect your credit score)
- Most users start with a limit between $100 and $400 — this may increase over time with on-time payments and positive account history
To protect our users and promote healthy financial habits, Deferit follows a Responsible Budgeting approach. We assess affordability carefully to ensure that Pay in 4 is a good fit for your situation.
If your account is ever under review, we’ll notify you and explain what’s needed.
Bill Pay and Bill Negotiation
Bill Pay is available to all verified users — no credit check required. Just upload your bill and pay the full amount with your debit or credit card. We’ll pay it on your behalf and report the payment to credit bureaus (when applicable).
Bill Negotiation is also available once your account is verified. Upload a bill like internet, cable, or phone, and our team will attempt to negotiate a lower rate directly with your provider.
Bottom line
If you meet the basic requirements (age, verification, single account), you can:
- Start uploading and paying bills
- Access Pay in 4 (if eligible)
- Use Bill Pay to pay bills in full and build credit
- Use Bill Negotiation to try and lower your regular expenses
Deferit is built to provide flexible, interest-free bill payment options — responsibly and accessibly.
