Getting started
What is Pay in 2?
Pay in 2 gives verified Deferit members access to $50 via a virtual card for everyday, non-discretionary purchases.
Unlike our standard bill payment service, you don’t need to upload a bill. Simply make a request, complete a quick verification, and receive a virtual card you can use straight away at approved merchants.
Who is eligible for Pay in 2?
To access Pay in 2 you need:
- An active Deferit membership
- A verified Deferit balance (meaning identity verification is complete)
Pay in 2 is available in all US states that support Deferit’s existing Pay in 4 product. If your state isn’t supported, you’ll see a message when you try to apply.
How do I apply for Pay in 2?
- Open the Deferit website and select Pay in 2 from the service selection screen.
- Complete membership confirmation and the quick verification step.
- Review your repayment summary and confirm your request.
- Your virtual card details will be sent to you via email.
No bill upload is required.
What if my verification fails?
If we’re unable to verify your identity automatically, you’ll see a message prompting you to contact Deferit support.
Our team will guide you through any additional steps needed to complete verification. You won’t be able to proceed until verification is successful.
Using Pay in 2
How do I access my $50? Is it cash, or a card?
Your $50 is loaded onto a Deferit virtual card — it’s not cash deposited into your bank account.
You can use the card just like any other card at approved merchants. Your card details (including the ZIP code associated with your card, which some online checkouts require) will be sent to you via email once your Pay in 2 is confirmed.
The same virtual card may also be used for your other Deferit products, such as Pay in 4 bills.
Where can I use my Pay in 2 card?
Your card works at merchants that fall within Deferit’s approved Merchant Category Codes (MCCs).
These cover a broad range of everyday, non-discretionary purchases such as:
- Groceries
- Fuel
- Utilities
- Pharmacies
Some merchants, including certain online retailers, may not be supported. If a transaction is declined, you can try a different eligible merchant and your card will remain active.
Can I make more than one purchase with Pay in 2?
Yes. You can make multiple transactions up to your $50 limit.
Example:
- Spend $30 at one merchant
- Use the remaining $20 elsewhere
What happens if my transaction is declined?
Your virtual card stays active after a declined transaction, so you can try again at another eligible merchant.
Declines typically happen because the merchant category isn’t included in our approved list for Pay in 2. Your available balance is unaffected by a declined transaction.
Repayment
How does repayment work?
Pay in 2 is split into two equal installments of $25, with no payment due upfront.
Your repayment schedule is set when your card is issued:
- Installment 1: Due 7 days after your card is sent
- Installment 2: Due 14 days after your card is sent
Can I move my repayment dates?
Yes. You can adjust your installment due dates within our standard rules:
- New members: Can move dates up to 2 weeks
- Existing members: Can move dates up to 30 days
These are the same date movement rules that apply to your other Deferit bills.
Are there any fees for Pay in 2?
There is a $0.99 processing fee applied to each installment.
Standard late fees also apply if installments aren’t paid on time, consistent with how your other Deferit bills work.
What happens if I don’t repay on time?
Pay in 2 follows the same collection rules as Pay in 4.
Missed payments may result in:
- Late fees
- Your Deferit account being locked until the balance is cleared
If a payment is more than 21 days overdue, Deferit may attempt alternative payment sources or reduced amounts to help resolve the balance.
Expiry & limits
Can I use Pay in 2 multiple times at once?
No. You can only have one active Pay in 2 at a time.
Once your current card is fully repaid or has expired, you’re free to request another one.
Does Pay in 2 affect my Deferit balance?
Yes. When Pay in 2 is issued, the full $50 is held against your available Deferit balance.
As you repay and as your actual spend is confirmed, that balance impact reduces. This means you may have a reduced balance while Pay in 2 is active.
Other questions
What if something was charged to my card that I didn’t authorize, or I need a refund?
Please contact our support team as soon as possible.
Disputes and refunds for Pay in 2 transactions are handled by our team, who can investigate via card transaction records.
If funds are refunded to the card, we’ll arrange to pass that back to your original payment source.
Can I use my Pay in 2 card to pay a Deferit installment?
No. Pay in 2 is intended for non-discretionary everyday purchases, and using it to repay another loan or Deferit installment is not permitted.
This policy applies even if the transaction isn’t blocked automatically at checkout.
Can I add my Deferit virtual card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay?
We’re actively working on adding support for digital wallets like Apple Wallet.
Keep an eye on app updates — we’ll let you know as soon as this becomes available.
